2-Flute Solid Carbide Micro End Mill FAQ

Find answers about micro-end-mill sizes, square-end and ball-nose profiles, suitable materials, coatings, spindle runout, cutting conditions, custom dimensions, samples, lead time and OEM supply.

What applications is this micro end mill designed for?
This micro end mill is designed for miniature slots, micro-cavities, fine contours, detailed mold features, engraving and other precision-milling operations. It can be used for medical components, electronic parts, connectors, miniature molds and other small precision features.
Which cutting diameters are available?
Standard reference diameters range from Ø0.2 to Ø0.9 mm. Available square-end sizes include Ø0.2, Ø0.25, Ø0.3, Ø0.35, Ø0.4, Ø0.5, Ø0.6, Ø0.7, Ø0.8 and Ø0.9 mm. Intermediate and non-standard diameters can be manufactured after technical review.
Are square-end and ball-nose models both available?
Yes. Square-end micro end mills are suitable for miniature slots, flat-bottom features and fine profiling. Ball-nose models from R0.1 to R0.45 are available for curved surfaces, micro-contouring and detailed 3D finishing.
Why does this micro end mill use a 2-flute design?
The 2-flute design provides sufficient chip space at very small cutting diameters. It helps control chip evacuation and cutting engagement while retaining the tool-core strength required for precision micro milling.
What materials can this micro end mill machine?
Application-specific configurations are available for carbon steel, alloy steel, mold steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium alloys, aluminum and copper alloys. Carbide grade, edge geometry and coating must be selected separately for the intended workpiece material.
Which coating should I choose?
AlTiN, TiAlN, TiSiN and AlTiSiN coatings can be selected for steel and higher-temperature machining. Polished uncoated or DLC-coated configurations are more appropriate for aluminum, copper and selected non-ferrous materials. Final coating selection depends on the material, hardness, cutting temperature and coolant method.
How important is spindle runout for a Ø0.2–0.9 mm end mill?
Spindle and holder runout are critical because even a small amount of runout represents a large percentage of the micro tool’s diameter. Excessive runout can cause uneven cutting loads, poor dimensional accuracy and premature tool breakage. A high-precision holder and stable spindle are recommended.
How can micro-end-mill breakage be reduced?
Minimize tool overhang, use a clean high-precision holder and avoid sudden cutting engagement. Controlled ramp entry, small cutting depths, stable chip evacuation and suitable speeds and feeds help reduce excessive cutting loads and micro-tool breakage.
Can this tool perform full-width slotting?
Full-width slotting may be possible with suitable cutting parameters, but it creates a higher load than profiling or partial radial engagement. The cutting depth, feed rate and entry method should be reduced according to the tool diameter, workpiece material and spindle rigidity.
Should air blast or coolant be used?
The appropriate method depends on the workpiece material and coating. Air blast or mist can help remove small chips from the cutting area, while a stable coolant supply may be used for selected materials. Avoid interrupted or inconsistent coolant delivery during heat-sensitive machining.
Can you manufacture custom micro end mills?
Yes. Cutting diameter, ball radius, flute length, neck diameter, effective reach, shank diameter, overall length, helix geometry and coating can be customized according to an approved drawing. Critical tolerance and runout requirements should be confirmed before production.
Can I order samples before bulk production?
Yes. Standard-size and custom samples can be reviewed before bulk production. Please provide the required diameter, end profile, flute length, workpiece material, coating and machining conditions so that the sample configuration can be confirmed.
What is the production lead time?
In-stock standard sizes are generally prepared for shipment within 1–3 working days. Lead time for custom diameters, special coatings, samples and OEM orders is confirmed separately after the dimensions, technical requirements and order quantity have been reviewed.
Do you provide OEM and private-label services?
Yes. OEM services include custom dimensions, carbide grades, coatings, laser-marked tool codes, product labels, individual protective packaging and private-label supply for distributors and tooling brands.
What information is required for a quotation?
Please provide the end profile, cutting diameter or ball radius, flute length, neck dimensions, shank diameter, overall length, workpiece material and hardness, machining operation, spindle speed, holder type, coolant method, tolerance and required quantity.
