Carbide Lollipop Ball Nose End Mill Overview

This solid carbide lollipop ball nose end mill combines a spherical cutting head with a relieved-neck design for undercutting, backside profiling and recessed-feature machining. Once the cutting head passes through a suitable opening, the reduced neck provides additional clearance for machining behind shoulders, around obstacles and inside difficult-to-reach areas. The tool can be used for backside deburring, cross-hole edge finishing, recessed grooves, mold-cavity finishing and complex 3D contouring.

Lollipop Cutting Geometry

Spherical Cutting Head

The rounded cutting form can contact recessed and curved surfaces from multiple directions, supporting radius features and complex side profiles.

Reduced-Neck Clearance

The relieved neck creates clearance between the cutting head and shank, allowing the tool to reach behind shoulders and into undercut regions.

R1–R10 Size Family

Multiple radius, neck and shank combinations cover small recessed features through larger backside and undercut applications.

Selection & Machining Guidance

  • Radius Selection: Select the ball radius according to the required finished curved profile and available feature size.
  • Entry Clearance: Confirm that the spherical cutting head can pass through the entry opening before lateral engagement begins.
  • Relief Geometry: Use sufficient relief diameter and length to reach the undercut while retaining as much neck rigidity as practical.
  • Controlled Engagement: Use smooth lead-in moves and progressive side passes rather than forcing the complete spherical profile into heavy engagement.
  • Holder Clearance: Check the cutting head, relieved neck, shank and holder against surrounding workpiece geometry throughout the complete toolpath.
  • Custom Tools: Provide a drawing or CAD model when the required radius, neck geometry, reach or overall length differs from the standard series.

Carbide Lollipop End Mill Customization

Ball radius, spherical-head geometry, relief diameter, relief length, shank diameter, overall length, cutting-edge configuration and coating can be customized for undercutting, backside profiling and recessed 3D machining. Standard R1–R10 configurations cover different feature sizes and access depths, while non-standard tools can be reviewed according to the finished profile, entry opening, undercut reach, workpiece material and available machine clearance.

Product & Application FAQs

Common questions about solid carbide lollipop ball nose end mills for undercutting, backside profiling, edge finishing and recessed 3D machining.

What is a lollipop ball nose end mill used for?
It is used for undercuts, backside profiles, recessed grooves, cross-hole edge finishing, mold-cavity finishing and complex 3D surfaces where a conventional straight end mill cannot provide sufficient access.
How is a lollipop cutter different from a standard ball nose end mill?
A conventional ball nose end mill is primarily used for open-surface profiling and 3D contouring. A lollipop cutter combines a spherical cutting head with a relieved neck, providing additional clearance for backside, recessed and undercut features.
What radius sizes are available?
The current standard-reference series includes R1, R1.5, R2, R2.5, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9 and R10.
How many cutting teeth are used?
The current size matrix specifies 2 cutting teeth for R1 through R6 and 3 cutting teeth for R7 through R10.
Can this tool machine conventional flat T-slots?
The spherical head produces a rounded cutting form. If the component requires a flat-bottom or parallel-sided T-slot, a dedicated T-slot cutter may be more appropriate. Tool selection should follow the required finished profile.
Can it be used for backside deburring?
Yes. The relieved-neck geometry can provide access to backside edges when the cutting head can safely enter the feature and sufficient machine and holder clearance is available.
Does the tool require a pre-machined access opening?
For enclosed undercut and backside applications, the opening must be large enough for the spherical cutting head to enter without unintended contact before the lateral cutting path begins.
Are coated versions available?
Optional coatings can be reviewed according to the workpiece material and machining conditions. Please provide the material grade and application when requesting coating recommendations.

Ordering & Customization FAQs

Ordering information for distributors, tooling suppliers and OEM customers requiring standard or non-standard lollipop ball nose cutters.

Which dimensions can be customized?
Ball radius, cutting-head geometry, relief diameter, relief length, shank diameter and overall length can be reviewed according to the required profile and available machine clearance.
Can you manufacture from a drawing or sample tool?
Yes. A component drawing, CAD model, existing tool drawing or physical sample can be reviewed for non-standard and replacement-tool requirements.
Are OEM marking and private-label packaging available?
Yes. Custom laser marking, tool codes, labels, packaging and private-brand requirements can be reviewed for distributors and OEM customers.
What information should I provide for quotation?
Please provide the required radius, finished profile, entry-opening dimensions, undercut depth, relief diameter and length, shank diameter, overall length, workpiece material, tolerance, coating requirement and order quantity. A drawing or CAD model is recommended for non-standard applications.
Thời gian thực hiện thông thường là bao lâu?
When available from stock, standard specifications are generally ready for shipment within 1–3 working days. Lead time for custom radii, neck dimensions, overall lengths, coatings or other non-standard configurations is confirmed after specification and quantity review.
