Long-Neck Micro Solid Carbide Square End Mill Overview

This long-neck micro solid carbide square end mill is designed for narrow ribs, recessed walls, miniature pockets and deep mold features that cannot be reached with a standard short-reach cutter. Its micro-diameter cutting section is combined with a reduced neck to provide wall clearance while keeping the cutting edge short and supported. Selected 2- and 4-flute configurations can be matched to the workpiece material, chip space and finishing requirement.

Reduced-Neck Clearance

The neck diameter is smaller than the shank to reduce interference with deep pocket walls and narrow ribs.

Short Supported Cutting Edge

Reach is provided by the neck instead of an unnecessarily long flute, supporting delicate micro cutting edges.

Precision Square End

Supports miniature slots, flat pocket floors, small shoulders and defined mold features.

Why Use a Long-Neck Micro End Mill?

Access Behind Tall Walls

Provides toolholder and shank clearance when the cutting edge must reach below the surrounding component surface.

Controlled Edge Support

Separating cutting length from neck reach helps limit unsupported flute length and chip-packing risk.

Micro Feature Accuracy

Ultra-fine-grain carbide supports sharp micro edges and consistent geometry under controlled cutting loads.

Micro Geometry & Tool Construction

Coated long-neck micro square end mills with reduced-neck geometry

Ultra-Fine-Grain Carbide

Supports accurate micro-edge grinding and dimensional stability.

2- or 4-Flute Options

Two flutes provide more chip space; four flutes provide more cutting edges and a stronger core.

Material-Matched Surface

Coated or uncoated configurations are selected according to the workpiece and edge requirement.

Rib & Deep-Cavity Applications

Narrow Ribs

Thin rib walls, mold inserts and recessed shoulders.

Deep Cavities

Small floors and walls below the surrounding surface.

Miniature Features

Detailed slots, pockets and micro-mechanical features.

Precision Finishing

Small vertical walls and flat-bottom details with light engagement.

Machining Note: Use the shortest neck that clears the feature, minimize runout and overhang, apply light radial engagement and remove chips continuously.

Product & Application FAQs

Answers to common questions about selecting and applying the Long-Neck Micro Solid Carbide Square End Mill for Rib and Deep-Cavity Machining.

What materials is this square end mill designed to machine?
Material suitability depends on the exact long-neck geometry, coating and workpiece hardness. Mold steel and other deep-cavity applications should be reviewed using the component drawing and required reach.
Why use the micro-flute configuration for this application?
The micro cutting section and relieved neck provide access to narrow ribs and deep cavities, but the reduced neck also lowers stiffness. Cutting engagement and overhang must therefore be controlled carefully.
What milling operations are suitable for this square-end design?
The square-end profile is suitable for narrow-rib machining, deep-cavity profiling, fine wall milling and small-feature finishing. It supports flat-bottom features and 90° shoulders. Ramping and plunge capability should be confirmed according to the exact center-cutting geometry.
How should neck length and overhang be selected?
Use the shortest neck and clamping overhang that can safely reach the feature. Excess reach increases deflection, vibration and breakage risk, especially at very small cutting diameters.
Which coating or surface treatment should be selected?
Coating should be selected according to workpiece grade, hardness, cutting temperature and required edge sharpness at the micro diameter.
What machining conditions should be reviewed before use?
Review the exact workpiece grade and hardness, tool diameter, flute length, tool overhang, axial and radial engagement, holder runout, machine rigidity, chip evacuation and coolant or lubrication strategy. Starting parameters should be verified through a controlled machining trial.

Ordering & Customization FAQs

What standard sizes are available?
Selected micro diameters and long-neck configurations are available. Confirm cutting diameter, flute length, neck diameter, neck length, shank and overall length.
Can non-standard dimensions or geometry be manufactured?
Yes. Drawing-defined cutting diameters, neck diameters, reach lengths, shanks, flute geometry and coatings can be reviewed. Custom dimensions and tolerances are confirmed before production.
Are OEM marking and private-label packaging available?
Laser marking, tool codes, custom labels, protective tubes and private-label packaging can be reviewed according to the available marking area, confirmed packaging specification and order quantity.
What information is required for an accurate quotation?
Please provide the workpiece grade and hardness, rib or cavity drawing, required reach, micro diameter, neck clearance, holder condition and quantity. A tool drawing or component drawing is recommended for custom projects.
