HRC60 6-Flute Solid Carbide Square End Mill Overview

This HRC60-series 6-flute solid carbide square end mill is designed for stable semi-finishing and finishing of hardened steel, tool steel and mold steel under rigid CNC machining conditions. Its fine-grain carbide substrate, reinforced six-flute core and precision-ground square-end geometry support controlled deflection, accurate 90° shoulders and consistent surface quality. The higher edge density can increase finishing productivity when radial engagement, runout and chip evacuation are properly controlled.

Product Configuration

HRC60 6-flute solid carbide square end mills for hardened steel

Six Cutting Edges

More cutting edges share the programmed feed and support productive finishing with controlled engagement.

Reinforced Core

The high-flute-count cross section improves rigidity and helps limit deflection during side and profile milling.

Square-End Profile

Precision-ground end geometry supports flat-bottom features and defined 90° shoulders.

Hardened-Steel Series

Configured for semi-finishing and finishing within the confirmed HRC60 application range.

Geometry & Substrate Design

Fine-grain carbide and six-flute geometry of HRC60 square end mill

Fine-Grain Solid Carbide

The supplied 0.4 μm fine-grain carbide reference is intended to balance cutting-edge strength, rigidity and wear resistance during hardened-steel machining.

Wear-Resistant Surface

A hardened-steel-compatible coating helps protect the cutting edges against heat and abrasive wear. The available coating specification should be confirmed when ordering.

Precision-Ground End Geometry

Controlled end-face grinding supports accurate floors, walls and square shoulders during finishing passes.

Chip Space & Cutting Stability

U-shaped chip flute design of six-flute carbide end mill

U-Shaped Flute Space

The flute form preserves chip space within the six-flute design and supports chip flow when the radial width and axial depth of cut are properly controlled.

Machining Note: Six flutes provide less open chip space than 2- or 4-flute tools. Use controlled radial engagement, reliable air blast or suitable coolant, low runout and a rigid setup. Aggressive full-width slotting is not the primary application.

권장 애플리케이션

Profile Finishing

Finishing external contours and walls with low radial engagement and a stable toolpath.

Side Milling

Stable side cutting where wall accuracy, rigidity and controlled deflection are important.

Shoulder Milling

Producing flat floors and defined square shoulders in hardened-steel components.

Mold & Die Finishing

Semi-finishing and finishing hardened inserts, mold components and precision die features.

Application Note: HRC60 indicates the series positioning and upper target under selected machining conditions. Actual suitability depends on the steel grade, hardness, engagement, holder condition, machine rigidity and cutting data.

Setup Guidance

Control Runout

Keep the holder, collet and shank clean so cutting load is distributed evenly across all six flutes.

Minimize Overhang

Clamp the tool as short as the operation safely allows to improve stiffness and reduce chatter.

Calculate Feed Correctly

Calculate programmed feed using six cutting edges, then adjust for diameter, hardness, engagement and machine rigidity.

Ordering Note: Confirm the model, cutting diameter, cutting length, shank diameter, overall length, workpiece grade and hardness, coating requirement, holder condition and machining operation. Custom dimensions should be reviewed in the Customization & OEM tab.

Product & Application FAQs

Answers to common questions about selecting and applying the HRC60 6-Flute Solid Carbide Square End Mill for Hardened Steel.

What materials is this square end mill designed to machine?
It is positioned for hardened tool steel, mold steel and selected pre-hardened steel under stable machining conditions. Confirm grade, actual hardness and operation.
Why use the 6-flute configuration for this application?
Six flutes provide more cutting edges and a rigid core for lower-radial-engagement side milling and finishing. The smaller flute space makes it less suitable for heavy full-width slotting.
What milling operations are suitable for this square-end design?
The square-end profile is suitable for profiling, side milling, semi-finishing and finishing with controlled radial engagement. It supports flat-bottom features and 90° shoulders. Ramping and plunge capability should be confirmed according to the exact center-cutting geometry.
Is a 6-flute end mill suitable for full-width slotting?
It is generally better suited to side milling and finishing with controlled radial engagement. Full-width slotting creates high chip volume and should only be attempted if the exact geometry and cutting conditions are confirmed.
Which coating or surface treatment should be selected?
A heat-resistant PVD coating matched to hardened steel should be selected with the substrate and edge preparation.
What machining conditions should be reviewed before use?
Review the exact workpiece grade and hardness, tool diameter, flute length, tool overhang, axial and radial engagement, holder runout, machine rigidity, chip evacuation and coolant or lubrication strategy. Starting parameters should be verified through a controlled machining trial.

Ordering & Customization FAQs

Information for distributors, tooling brands and customers requesting standard or application-specific configurations.

What standard sizes are available?
Selected standard metric sizes and lengths are available. Confirm diameter, flute length, shank, overall length, coating and workpiece hardness.
Can non-standard dimensions or geometry be manufactured?
Yes. Selected dimensions, neck reaches, edge preparation and coating can be reviewed for hardened-steel finishing requirements. Custom dimensions and tolerances are confirmed before production.
Are OEM marking and private-label packaging available?
Laser marking, tool codes, custom labels, protective tubes and private-label packaging can be reviewed according to the available marking area, confirmed packaging specification and order quantity.
What information is required for an accurate quotation?
Please provide the hardened-steel grade, measured hardness, dimensions, operation, axial and radial engagement, finish target and quantity. A tool drawing or component drawing is recommended for custom projects.
