Aluminum Milling Speed & Feed Reference

Starting reference values for Ø1-Ø16 mm tools. Adjust for alloy, tool overhang, engagement, coolant and machine rigidity.

TOOL DIAMETER (mm) SPINDLE SPEED (RPM)* TABLE FEED (mm/min)*
1 24,000 600
2 24,000 800
3 20,000 1,000
4 18,000 1,200

12 6,000 2,000
14 4,800 2,200
16 4,000 2,400
Reference Note: These are starting reference values, not validated cutting data for every size or operation. Extended-length tools and longer overhangs require separate parameter review.

Feed per Tooth: For this 3-flute tool, fz = Vf / (n x 3). At Ø6 mm, 16,000 RPM e 1,400 mm/min correspond to approximately 0.029 mm/tooth.

Changing Spindle Speed: Recalculate feed when RPM changes to maintain the selected feed per tooth.

Aluminum Milling Guidance

  • Chip Evacuation: Keep chips clear from slots and pockets.
  • Tool Holding: Minimize runout and unnecessary overhang.
  • Entry Method: Confirm center-cutting geometry before plunging or aggressive ramp entry.
  • Material Review: Confirm the aluminum alloy and machining operation before selecting the tool.

Selection Guide: For flute count, cutting geometry, coating and tool-reach selection, see our

Manufacturer & Product FAQs

Manufacturing, aluminum applications, samples and custom sizes.

Are you a manufacturer of carbide end mills for aluminum?
Yes. HY Cutting Tools manufactures standard and custom solid carbide end mills, including this polished, uncoated 3-flute aluminum series. We use WALTER five-axis CNC grinding machines and ZOLLER equipment for applicable dimensional and profile checks.
Is this 3-flute end mill suitable for my aluminum alloy and application?
This polished, uncoated square end mill is designed for aluminum slotting, pocketing and side milling. Send your alloy grade, machining operation and required dimensions so we can review the configuration; plunging and ramping capability must be confirmed for the selected tool.
Can I order samples before placing a bulk order?
Yes. Samples or small trial orders can be arranged, subject to availability, and are generally charged with shipping paid by the customer. Most standard tools have a 10-piece MOQ; sample quantities and custom-tool minimums are confirmed separately.
Can you manufacture custom sizes or long-reach end mills?
Yes. We can review cutting diameter, flute length, shank diameter, overall length and neck clearance from your drawing, specification or sample. Feasibility, tolerances, quantity and surface treatment are confirmed before production.

Ordering & Quality FAQs

OEM branding, quality control, lead times and quotations.

Do you offer OEM branding and private-label packaging?
Yes. We offer laser marking of customer logos and tool codes, together with neutral or private-label packaging. Artwork, marking space, label details and packaging quantities are confirmed for each order; see our OEM and private-label services.
How do you check tool quality and batch consistency?
Incoming, in-process and final checks cover material requirements, dimensions, geometry, cutting edges and surface condition against the approved specification. Confirmed drawings and order records are retained for repeat production; see our manufacturing and quality control.
What are the lead times for standard and custom orders?
In-stock standard tools can usually be ready for dispatch within 1–3 days. Bulk, out-of-stock and custom orders are scheduled according to quantity and manufacturing requirements, with dispatch timing confirmed in the quotation or order confirmation. Shipping transit time is separate.
What information do you need to recommend a tool and provide a quotation?
Send the aluminum alloy, milling operation, cutting diameter, flute length, shank diameter, overall length, quantity and destination country. A drawing or reference tool code is helpful; include machine, coolant and current cutting conditions if you need application advice.

For general ordering, payment and shipping questions, see our Cutting Tool FAQs.
