◆Product Overview
The WNMG 080404 and WNMG 080408 carbide turning inserts are designed for stable external turning, facing and general profiling on CNC lathes. Their 80° trigon shape combines strong corner support with practical access to external workpiece features.
The double-sided negative geometry provides six usable cutting edges, helping reduce the insert cost per cutting edge in repeat production. Multiple chipbreakers, carbide substrates and PVD/CVD coating options are available for finishing, medium turning and selected roughing conditions.
Final grade and chipbreaker selection should be based on the workpiece material, hardness, depth of cut, feed rate, cutting speed and machine rigidity.

◆WNMG 0804 Model Selection
| Model | Corner Radius | General Characteristic | Typical Selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| WNMG 080404 | 0.4 mm | Lower radial cutting force | Finishing and lighter external turning |
| WNMG 080408 | 0.8 mm | Stronger corner support | General medium turning and facing |
Corner radius affects edge strength, radial force, feed capability and achievable surface finish. Select it together with the holder angle and machining conditions.

◆Product and Chipbreaker Details

WNMG inserts are available with different carbide substrates, coatings and chipbreaker geometries. The correct combination should be selected according to the workpiece-material group and actual cutting conditions.
Do not identify an insert only by coating color. The complete grade and chipbreaker code is required for accurate replacement matching.
WNMG inserts are normally packed in compartment boxes to protect the cutting edges and maintain clear model, grade and batch identification. Packaging details are confirmed according to the selected models and order quantity.
- Complete WNMG insert code, grade and chipbreaker
- Compatible tool-holder model
- Workpiece material and hardness
- Turning operation, feed and cutting depth
- Required quantity and packaging preference
If the complete code is unavailable, send clear photographs of the top marking, chipbreaker surface, side profile, original box label and compatible tool holder.

◆Geometry & Ordering Details
| Parameter | Product Selection Detail |
|---|---|
| Insert configuration | 80° trigon; 0° nominal relief; double-sided with six indexable corners when both faces and all corners are usable in the holder. |
| Operation | External turning and facing; profile access depends on holder approach angle and workpiece clearance. |
| Workpiece groups | Steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M) or cast iron (ISO K), subject to the selected grade and chipbreaker. Aluminum requires a suitable dedicated geometry and grade. |
| Grade & coating | Carbide substrate; PVD, CVD and uncoated options are listed in the Overview. Availability and the approved workpiece group are confirmed by complete item code. |
| Chipbreaker & edge | Select the supplier-specific finishing, medium or suitable roughing geometry by feed, depth of cut and chip behavior; verify edge preparation. |
| Pack reference | The Overview lists 10 pieces per box. Confirm actual pack count, grade, marking and private-label requirements in the quotation. |
The ISO size code identifies the basic geometry and radius. A matching WNMG 080408 from another manufacturer can have a different chipbreaker, edge preparation, substrate and coating.
◆How to Select the Insert
For additional shape, grade and nose-radius guidance, see the CNC Insert Selection Guide.
◆Starting Cutting Data
A universal cutting-speed, feed or depth-of-cut value cannot be assigned to both size codes: the Overview does not identify one specific grade or chipbreaker. Obtain the supplier's cutting range for the complete item code and actual workpiece material. For external turning, calculate spindle speed from n = (1000 × Vc) / (π × D), where Vc is cutting speed in m/min and D is the workpiece diameter at the cut in mm.

◆Product FAQs
What are WNMG 080404 and WNMG 080408 used for?
They are double-sided, 80° trigon inserts used with a compatible holder for external turning and facing. General profiling is possible where the holder approach angle and workpiece geometry provide enough clearance. Select the grade and chipbreaker for the specific material and operation.
What is the difference between 080404 and 080408?
They share the nominal WNMG 0804 body size. The final two digits indicate 0.4 mm and 0.8 mm corner radii respectively. The 0.4 mm radius may suit lighter finishing cuts; 0.8 mm gives more corner support but can raise radial force. Finish also depends on feed, chipbreaker and setup stability.
How many usable cutting edges does a WNMG insert have?
The double-sided trigon form has three corners per face, giving six indexable corners in the normal arrangement. Actual use of each edge depends on insert condition, chipbreaker and holder access. Index the insert when wear or damage reaches the application limit.
Can these inserts machine steel, stainless steel and cast iron?
The Overview lists all three as grade-dependent workpiece groups. Confirm the actual steel, stainless or cast-iron grade and hardness, then choose a supplier-approved substrate, coating and chipbreaker. The WNMG size code alone does not qualify one insert for every material.
Will both radii fit the same tool holder?
A holder designed for the same WNMG 0804 seat may accept both body sizes, subject to its clamp and manufacturer's specification. Check insert tolerance, hole and seat fit, holder direction, approach angle and clearance. A larger corner radius may limit access to a tight profile.
How do I choose a chipbreaker and cutting parameters?
Provide the workpiece grade and hardness, finishing or medium-cut requirement, feed, depth of cut, coolant and cut continuity. Confirm a chipbreaker and carbide grade with published operating ranges for the complete insert code. Start within those ranges and check chip control, wear and surface finish in a trial.
◆Ordering & OEM FAQs
What do you need to match my current WNMG insert?
Send the complete insert code, original manufacturer, grade and chipbreaker, photographs of the marking and both faces, box label, holder model, workpiece material, cutting conditions and required quantity. Confirm the proposed replacement by holder-fit and machining trials.
Can I order 080404 and 080408 together?
Send a line-by-line list of each complete model, grade, chipbreaker and quantity. Mixed-model supply, stock status, MOQ and delivery time are confirmed for each item. The Overview gives 10 pieces per box as the standard pack reference.
Can I request samples before production ordering?
Provide the full code, holder, workpiece and intended cutting conditions. Confirm sample availability by configuration, then compare chip control, insert wear, finish and cost per accepted part under the same setup.
Are private-label boxes and custom labels available?
The Overview lists neutral and private-label packaging, customer SKU and barcode labels. Send the artwork, required marking, pack count and forecast quantity for feasibility, minimum quantity and lead-time confirmation.
