◆Visão geral do produto

O WNMG 080404/080408 R/L-S carbide turning inserts have an 80° trigon body for external turning and facing of steel. The 0.4 and 0.8 mm nose-radius options let you select a corner for the required feed, profile clearance and setup rigidity. Match the handed R/L-S cutting geometry to the actual toolholder and cutting direction.

The specified YBC251 and YBC252 grades are CVD-coated carbide grades for medium turning to roughing of steel and cast steel. YBC251 is positioned for lower cutting speeds; YBC252 covers a broader medium-to-roughing range. The grade choice still depends on steel grade, cut stability and the complete insert geometry.

Specify the full insert code, grade and holder before ordering. The R/L-S suffix is a geometry designation that needs a product-specific drawing; it does not, by itself, establish groove width, deep-grooving capability or interchangeability with another manufacturer’s chipbreaker.

◆YBC Grade & Application

Grau Coating / Group Manufacturer Positioning
YBC251 CVD; P20–P35 Medium turning to roughing of steel and cast steel at relatively lower cutting speeds.
YBC252 CVD; P20–P35 Broad-use medium turning to roughing of steel and cast steel, balancing wear resistance and toughness.

Neither grade designation alone verifies suitability for stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), hardened steel or heat-resistant alloys. Ask for a separately qualified grade and chipbreaker for those workpiece groups.

◆How to Select & Set Up

1. Match the holderVerify WNMG 08 seat, fixing hole, clamp and the intended entering angle.
2. Select R/L-SConfirm active edge, cutting hand, holder orientation and the supplier's S geometry.
3. Choose radiusCompare 0.4 and 0.8 mm with feed, finish target, profile and stability.
4. Qualify the gradeState steel grade, hardness, interruption, coolant and wear pattern.

Use cutting speed, feed and depth of cut published for the complete insert and grade combination. The old page's general values for steel and cast iron do not establish a validated range for this R/L-S configuration.

Calculation reference: Vc = π × D × n / 1000; n = 1000 × Vc / (π × D); F = f × n. Vc is m/min, D is workpiece diameter at the cut in mm, n is RPM, f is mm/rev and F is mm/min. These equations do not specify a safe cutting-speed range.

◆Product FAQs

What is the difference between WNMG 080404 and WNMG 080408?

Both use the WNMG 0804 body with nominal 4.76 mm thickness. The final two digits specify the nose radius: 080404 is 0.4 mm and 080408 is 0.8 mm. Select the corner radius with the feed, surface finish, profile and setup rigidity.

What do the W, N, M and G letters mean?

W denotes the 80° trigon shape; N specifies 0° clearance; M is the tolerance class; and G identifies a hole and chipbreaker configuration. The 08 size has nominal 12.70 mm inscribed circle. Use the complete product drawing for precise tolerances and clamping details.

How do YBC251 and YBC252 differ?

Both are CVD-coated carbide grades positioned for medium turning to roughing of steel and cast steel. The grade maker positions YBC251 for relatively lower cutting speeds and YBC252 for a broader medium-to-roughing application range. Select between them using the actual steel grade, cutting conditions and wear behavior.

What does the R/L-S suffix specify?

R and L indicate handed versions of the offered cutting geometry; S is part of its supplier-specific chipbreaker designation. Check the active edge, holder orientation and feed direction on the exact drawing. A similar suffix from another manufacturer may refer to a different edge design.

Are these inserts designed for deep grooving?

The WNMG body is a turning-insert geometry for operations such as external turning and facing. The R/L-S suffix alone does not establish a groove width or deep-grooving capacity. For a dedicated groove, select an insert and holder with a specified groove-width and reach range.

Can I use YBC251 or YBC252 on stainless steel or cast iron?

The published primary range for these grades is steel and cast steel (ISO P). Stainless steel and cast iron belong to different material groups. Request a grade and chipbreaker qualified for the specific workpiece rather than assuming the same insert will perform equally across materials.

◆Ordering & OEM FAQs

Are all R/L-S size and YBC grade combinations available?

The four size-and-hand rows are selection references. Send the desired complete codes to confirm whether each configuration is supplied in YBC251, YBC252 or both, together with stock status, pack quantity and lead time.

Will these inserts fit my WNMG 08 toolholder?

Match the pocket size, fixing-hole and clamp design, entering angle and active R/L edge with your holder drawing. The WNMG 08 designation establishes the nominal body family, but the complete geometry and holder setup still need checking.

What information should I provide for a quotation or replacement?

Send the complete insert and holder codes, preferred YBC grade, photos or a drawing of the current insert, steel grade and hardness, operation, cutting conditions and required quantity. For a replacement, compare the chipbreaker and edge geometry as well as the body size.

Can I request private-label packaging or a modified configuration?

Provide the requested marking, box artwork, pack quantity, grade, geometry and target application. Availability, minimum order quantity and lead time are confirmed against the approved specification.
