HRC55 90° Solid Carbide Spot Drill
This HRC55-series 90° solid carbide spot drill is designed for accurate spotting, centering and selected chamfering operations in steel, alloy steel and mold steel. Its short, rigid cutting geometry helps establish a controlled starting position before follow-up drilling, while the 90° included point can also produce a 45° edge chamfer when used perpendicular to the workpiece surface. Standard diameters range from Ø3 to Ø12 mm, with standard, 150 mm and selected 200 mm overall-length configurations available.

Key Configuration
1
90° Point Geometry
Creates a controlled starting feature for follow-up drilling and can produce a 45° chamfer around the hole edge.
2
Two-Edge Spiral Design
Two cutting edges balance the cutting load while spiral flutes provide chip space during shallow spotting and chamfering.
3
Standard & Extended Reach
Standard-length tools provide the highest rigidity, while selected 150 mm and 200 mm configurations support restricted-access machining.
Precision Hole-Preparation Functions
01 · Spotting
Creates a shallow conical starting feature that helps the following drill enter at the programmed hole location.
02 · Centering
Improves entry stability for subsequent drilling, especially with small-diameter or extended-length drills in rigid CNC setups.
03 · Chamfering
Produces a 45° chamfer around a drilled hole and supports selected edge-breaking and light countersinking operations.
90° Point Geometry & Application
How to Use a 90° Spot Correctly
- Keep the spot shallow when its main purpose is accurate hole location.
- Use controlled axial depth when producing a specified hole-edge chamfer.
- Check the relationship between the 90° spot and the following drill-point angle.
- Do not use the spot drill as a substitute for a full-depth twist drill.

Steel and Aluminum Require Different Cutting Styles
● Coated Steel-Focused Version
The coated tools are intended for steel, alloy-steel and mold-steel applications. Coating and edge preparation help manage cutting heat and abrasive wear.
● Polished Aluminum Version
Aluminum-focused tools normally use sharper cutting edges and polished flutes to reduce friction and material adhesion.
For aluminum-focused drilling, view the polished solid carbide drill for aluminum.
Applications & Target Scope

Setup & Machining Guidance
- Minimize Runout: Clean the shank and holder, verify clamping and keep tool projection as short as the part permits.
- Control Spot Depth: Program only the depth needed for hole location or the specified chamfer width.
- Match Cutting Data: Select speed, feed and coolant according to material hardness, coating, tool diameter and machine rigidity.
- Use Extended Length Carefully: The 150 mm and 200 mm tools require low vibration, reliable clearance and more conservative parameters.

Product FAQs
Product-specific information about applications, 90° point geometry, HRC55 series positioning, available configurations and machining requirements for this solid carbide spot drill.
What materials and applications is this spot drill designed for?
This solid carbide spot drill is designed primarily for accurate centering, spotting and selected light chamfering operations in steel, alloy steel, pre-hardened steel and other confirmed materials. Final suitability should be reviewed according to the exact material grade, hardness, feature size and machining conditions.
What is the purpose of the 90° point angle?
The 90° included point angle can produce a controlled starting feature for follow-up drilling and create a 45° chamfer on each side of a hole. The selected spotting diameter and depth should be matched to the point geometry of the following drill and the required chamfer dimensions.
What does the HRC55 designation mean?
HRC55 indicates the product-series positioning and an upper application target for selected machining conditions. It is not a universal guarantee that every material at 55 HRC can be machined with the same parameters. Workpiece grade, actual hardness, coating, tool overhang and machine rigidity must be confirmed.
Can the same tool be used for both centering and chamfering?
Yes. Its short, rigid 90° geometry is suitable for spotting and selected light chamfering operations. For wide chamfers, heavy countersinking or interrupted cuts, the required feature dimensions and cutting conditions should be reviewed before tool selection.
What sizes and configurations are available?
Standard and custom configurations can be reviewed according to the product series. Cutting diameter, cutting length, shank diameter, overall length, point angle, coating and dimensional tolerances should be confirmed before ordering.
What information is required for a quotation?
Please provide the required cutting diameter, shank diameter, cutting length, overall length, workpiece material and hardness, coating requirement and estimated quantity. A drawing is recommended when the tool must produce a specified spot diameter, chamfer or non-standard feature.
Ordering & OEM FAQs
General information for trial orders, mixed-size purchasing, private labeling and production scheduling.
Do you accept small trial orders?
Yes. Small sample or trial orders are welcomed for checking centering accuracy, chamfer quality, tool life and compatibility with the intended workpiece before volume purchasing.
Can mixed sizes be ordered together?
Yes. Standard and custom sizes can be combined in one order when the carbide grade, coating and production requirements are compatible. Mixed-size purchasing is suitable for distributors and multi-diameter machining requirements.
Is OEM laser marking available?
Yes. Custom shank laser marking such as a logo, model number, tool dimensions or batch identification can be reviewed together with OEM labels and packaging requirements.
What is the typical production lead time?
Standard stock items normally have a shorter lead time, while custom dimensions, special coatings and OEM orders require additional production time. The exact schedule is confirmed according to specification, quantity, coating and current production capacity.
