Product Overview

Precision Small-Bore Machining Redefined

The Compact U-Drill Series represents a breakthrough in small-diameter deep hole drilling technology. Specifically engineered with SP (Short Pitch) and SO (Special Optimized) geometries, these tools overcome the traditional limitations of machining bores under 25mm diameter. By combining an ultra-rigid compact body design with advanced insert technology, this series delivers unprecedented stability and precision in confined machining spaces where conventional tools typically fail.

Design Innovations
1. Geometry-Optimized Body Design
  • SP-Type (Short Pitch): Features reduced flute pitch for maximum rigidity in general steel and cast iron applications, minimizing deflection during interrupted cuts

  • SO-Type (Special Optimized): Incorporates harmonic-dampening mass distribution and variable helix angles specifically engineered for stainless steels, superalloys, and hardened materials

  • Asymmetric Body Reinforcement: Proprietary design places additional material on the pressure side while maintaining adequate chip clearance

2. Micro-Precision Insert System
  • Sub-Miniature Inserts: Available in 3.5mm and 4.5mm cutting edge lengths with six corner usability

  • Multi-Layer Coating: TiAlN+AlCrN hybrid coating with graded interface technology

  • Chipbreaker Evolution: Fifth-generation chipbreaker design maintains consistent chip control from 0.05-0.25mm/rev feed rates

  • Integrated Wiper Geometry: Built-in wiper flats deliver superior surface finish without secondary tools

3. Enhanced Coolant Dynamics
  • Dual-Orifice Design: Front and side coolant outlets create optimized flow patterns for different materials

  • Venturi Chip Evacuation: Accelerated coolant flow through specially shaped channels creates vacuum-assisted chip removal

  • Thermal Barrier Coating: Internal surfaces feature ceramic-based coating to reduce heat transfer to tool body

Size Chart & Specifications

The SP selection chart identifies compact drill-body groups from Ø13 to Ø24.5 mm with SP05, SP06 and SP07 insert families. It lists 2×D, 3×D, 4×D and 5×D depth classes; confirm availability and usable cutting length for each complete drill-body code.

Ø14–15.5 SP05 M2.2 × 5 T6
Ø16–21.5 SP06 M2.2 × 5 T6
Ø22–24.5 SP07 M2.5 × 7 T6

Chart note: These are insert-family and hardware references, not a full dimensional drawing. Confirm the body diameter, usable drilling depth, shank diameter, overall length, exact insert code and supplied hardware for the ordered model.

How to Select the Drill Body

01 · Hole size: State the required finished diameter and tolerance; the selected insert family changes across the diameter groups above.
02 · Depth: Specify the actual depth in mm and check the available 2×D, 3×D, 4×D or 5×D body drawing. Nominal depth ratio alone does not define overall length.
03 · Inserts: Confirm the complete insert designation, grade and chipbreaker for the workpiece material and cutting conditions.
04 · Machine fit: Verify shank and holder dimensions, coolant connection, clearance, screw and wrench for the complete body code.

Cutting Data & Application Note

Start with grade-specific cutting speed and feed recommendations for the selected SP insert and workpiece. Check chip evacuation, coolant delivery, machine stability and hole quality at the actual diameter and depth. Speed, feed, tool life, finish and cost per hole depend on the complete tool configuration and machining conditions.

Spindle speed: n = (1000 × Vc) / (π × D), where n is RPM, Vc is the approved cutting speed in m/min and D is nominal drill diameter in mm.
Feed rate: When programming in mm/min, F = n × f, where f is the approved drilling feed in mm/rev.
Trial checks: Inspect insert wear and chips, then measure hole diameter, straightness and finish under the intended production conditions.

U-Drill Customization & OEM

Share the hole diameter, drilling depth, workpiece material, machine connection and current tool reference. We can review a standard indexable U-drill configuration or an application-specific drill body, then confirm the matching insert pockets, center and peripheral inserts, coolant arrangement and order details. Available modifications depend on the approved drawing and production feasibility.

Drill body: Cutting diameter, usable drilling depth, overall length, body clearance and shank dimensions.
Insert system: WC- or SP-style pocket where applicable, plus the complete center and peripheral insert codes, grades and edge geometries.
Coolant & chips: Through-tool coolant provision, connection, channel layout and chip evacuation requirements for the selected depth.
OEM details: Body marking, replacement screws, wrench, protective packaging, labels and documentation as agreed.

03 · Assembly review: Verify the specified center and peripheral inserts, screws and seating on a sample or as otherwise agreed.
04 · Packing check: Match the body code, insert and hardware list, quantity, labels and protective packing to the approved order.

Inspection & Documentation

The drawing and purchase specification define acceptance criteria. Confirm the inspection method, sampling level and documents needed for the order.

Check Area What to Confirm
Body Dimensions Cutting diameter, usable depth, overall length, shank dimensions and drawing tolerances.
Insert Seats & Hardware Center and peripheral pockets, seating faces, screw threads, required fasteners and tool fit.

Product FAQs

Which small diameters are listed in the SP chart?

The compact selection shown here covers Ø13–24.5 mm. SP05 is listed for Ø13–15.5 mm, SP06 for Ø16–21.5 mm and SP07 for Ø22–24.5 mm. Confirm the complete body code for the exact diameter.

Are 2×D, 3×D, 4×D and 5×D available in every diameter?

The selection chart identifies these depth classes for the SP series but does not list every body dimension. Check the model-specific drawing for the orderable diameter and usable drilling depth.

Are SP05, SP06 and SP07 inserts interchangeable?

No interchangeability is established by the family names. Match the complete insert code, screw and pocket to the selected drill body before ordering replacements.

Does this chart specify an SQ insert option?

The supplied selection chart identifies SP05, SP06 and SP07 only. If you need an SQ configuration, send its separate drill-body drawing or complete model code for review.

What coolant pressure and cutting data should I use?

Confirm coolant pressure and flow for the exact body, insert grade, material and drilling depth. Use grade-specific speed and feed data as a starting point, then validate chip clearance and hole quality in a trial cut.

Is a specific hole tolerance or Ra finish guaranteed?

No series-wide hole tolerance, straightness or surface finish follows from the selection chart. Agree the target for your workpiece and verify it using the actual tool, inserts, machine and coolant setup.

Ordering & OEM FAQs

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send the hole diameter and tolerance, drilling depth in mm, workpiece material, machine holder, coolant capability, quantity and any current body or insert code.

Are the inserts, screws and wrench included?

Specify whether you need a drill body only or a complete kit. The quotation should identify the included insert codes, screw sizes, wrench and spare parts.

Can I request a different shank or depth?

Share the holder interface and required usable depth. A custom configuration is reviewed against the drawing, insert seat, coolant passage, quantity and production feasibility.

Can I evaluate a sample before a larger order?

Request the complete body and insert combination and define the workpiece, hole depth and inspection criteria. Sample availability and lead time are confirmed for the selected model.
